The time has come: The first letters for the 2023 climate bonus are fluttering into people’s mailboxes what you now have to do with them – and what’s new this year.
The 2023 climate bonus will be paid out in a new way in the fall – and people in Austria will be informed about this from now on. The basis for the cash bonus this year is a new “base amount” of 110 euros, which is topped up with a likewise further “regional compensation” of 0, 40, 75 or 110 euros. The regional compensation applies “to those regions in which the infrastructure and public transport network are not well developed,” according to the Climate Ministry.
So, depending on where you live, there are between 110 and 220 euros for “all people who have their main residence in Austria for at least six months in the claim year – regardless of citizenship and age.”
However, A detail was hardly considered and in the letter is called. Namely, it says that some people, no matter where they live, get the total amount of 220 euros and others only half of the minimum, so 55 euros: “Minors get half and all who can not use public transport due to a disability get 220 euros.”
So between €55 and €220 will land in Austrians’ accounts in September 2023. But only if they take action in time. For the money to be deposited into their account, an important deadline is July 10, 2023. Thus, one goal of the Climate Ministry is to significantly increase the number of user account data for this year’s payout – meaning that as many eligible persons as possible should register with FinanzOnline or, if already registered, update their data there.
The payment of the money should go smoothly. As in the previous year, the price is to be made from the beginning of September by bank transfer and by mail via RSa letter – whereby the Ministry is counting on a solid increase in the transfer method. By mail, people from whom complete data are unavailable will again receive voucher mail.
